To participate in a Defensive Driving Course under Arizona law, you must meet the following conditions:

  • You have not attended a defensive driving class for a citation issued within the past 12 months from your current violation date. Click here to check your eligibility. 

  • You will complete the course at least 7 days prior to your scheduled court appearance date.

  • Your traffic violation is considered eligible.

Arizona Traffic Violations Reference

ARS §28-644 – §28-651 (Traffic Control & Signals)

  1. ARS §28-644(A)(1) & (A)(2): Obedience to Traffic Control Devices — Drivers must obey official signs and signals unless directed otherwise; prohibits unauthorized signs or markings.

  2. ARS §28-645(A)(1)(a)–(c): Traffic Control Signal Legend — Defines meanings of green, yellow, and red lights.

  3. ARS §28-646(A)(1): Pedestrian Control Signals — Specifies “WALK/ DON’T WALK” signal meanings and driver duties.

  4. ARS §28-647(1) & (2): Flashing Signals — Flashing red = stop; flashing yellow = proceed with caution.

  5. ARS §28-651: Use of Private Property to Avoid Traffic Control Device — Prohibits cutting through private property to evade a stoplight or sign.

 

ARS §28-701 → §28-710 (Speed & Aggressive Driving)

  1. §28-701.02(A)(1)–(3): Excessive Speeds — Defines criminal “excessive speed” violations in school, business, and residential zones.

  2. §28-701(A) & (E): Reasonable and Prudent Speed — Requires speed appropriate for conditions and prohibits impeding normal traffic flow.

  4. §28-702.04(B): Interstate Speed Limits — Sets maximum speeds for specific vehicle types.
